Comparison
Your own shop, or work from a marketplace
A marketplace competes with you for the customer, not with us for the software. This is the difference between selling through someone else's window and having your own — no names, because we hold no documented figures about any particular marketplace.
| Question | Work from a marketplace | Your own shop on Forgmatic |
|---|---|---|
| Whose customer is it | The marketplace's. Next time they ask it, not you. | Yours. The list sits under your shop and is never shared with another shop. Our own marketing never touches it — a subscriber of yours is not a subscriber of ours. |
| Who sets the price | The marketplace. You set capacity, not price. | You do. Rates, markups and quantity discounts are yours. The platform enforces no ceiling and no floor. |
| Where the money lands | With the marketplace first, with you later. | Straight into your own account through Stripe Connect once you have connected it. Our commission comes off the payment, not out of your balance. |
| Whose name is on the invoice | The marketplace invoices the customer; you invoice them. | Your company, from your own billing details. You invoice the customer directly — we are not a party to it. |
| Where the customer sees it | On a marketplace subpage, next to your competitors. | On your domain, with your logo and your colours.A custom domain from Pro upwards. |
| Who holds the data | The marketplace. Leaving means starting over. | You export it yourself, on every plan including the free one. It carries your configuration plus your business customers and their orders. |
And what we take
A commission on the completed order, from 0.3 % and capped, depending on the plan. Listing someone else's margin while hiding our own would not be a comparison. Work it out on the pricing page
The comparison against spreadsheets and e-mail lives on the home page, so it exists once: What it looks like today
